search for an article

(e.g. image, image and wrap, image or wrap)

iShell 101 was started with the idea of having the community help contribute useful resources for new and current users of iShell. In keeping with this spirit, we are looking for people to contribute articles. Maybe you have had help with a problem that baffled you, and now you are an expert and would like to show everyone the easy way to solve the problem. Maybe you want to help out to receive community recognition. Either way we would love your help.

What articles can you write?

Articles marked with a text icon are articles we are looking for contributors to write. These are just ideas of articles to start with, so if you have the desire to write one of these please let us know. We are open to new articles as well. To be safe, please check with us on your topic to make sure it is not already covered.

Article Guidelines and What We Need

  • A one page HTML article with images sent to contribute@ishell101.com.
  • Please do not define specific font tags. We have style sheets that do most of this. You can specify H1, H2, strong, etc. And these will follow the look of the site.
  • All images must be contained in a folder called "images".
  • Image width must not be more than 600 pixels.
  • A keyword list that will show for searches.
  • An article title.
  • Description of you, the author. This can promote yourself however you would like.

Writing Tips

  • Use strong when you want to instruct the user to do something or when pointing out a new concept.
  • Explain why you are doing something. It is important the reader understands what a step is or what a concept means. This explanation should be in plain text not bold or italics.
  • Including alternatives is useful. We all know there are multiple ways to do look at or think about something in iShell. Making side notes to convey this type of information is most useful.
  • Be as detailed as possible and reasonable. Creating more screen shots are a great visual way to help the user see what you are trying to convey. Always keep the user in mind. Pretend you are explaining this to your old Auntie Edna. We do not know who will stumble across this site. If a new user visits the site, we cannot assume they understand the basic iShell skills. Referencing other articles may be helpful in some cases.
  • For screen shots be sure you optimize the picture files. If you can include arrows to illustrate the task, by all means please do.
  • If you label a picture, do so in italics beneath the picture.

If you have an article complete or have any questions please write us at contribute@ishell101.com.
